Player Profile – #20 – Deutch, Roni L. – 3B
Roni Deutch is known across America as “The Tax Lady”, the tenacious defender of American taxpayers from the Internal Revenue Service. Prior to Roni becoming a top notch tax attorney, owner of the nation’s largest tax resolution law firm – Roni Lynn Deutch, A Professional Tax Corporation – and owner of the nation’s fastest growing tax preparation franchise concept – Roni Deutch Tax Center® – Roni was a tenacious softball player at the University of California, Berkeley.
During her four-year playing career, Roni was known for her timely hitting, fearlessness on the base-paths, and steady glove while playing the hot corner – a/k/a third base. She made her mark in the University of California, Berkeley softball record books by piling up the 2nd most Assists in the team’s history, with 554, and the NORPAC by being named first team All-Conference for all four years of her playing career (1983, 1984, 1985, 1986).
Roni’s most memorable season was in 1986. That year, she helped her Golden Bears roar, becoming one of the best team’s in the nation by season’s end. During the regular season, the team went 43-17, tying for 1st in the NORPAC. In the post season, Roni and her Golden Bears went on a tear, culminating in a trip to the NCAA, College World Series of Softball in Omaha, NE. At the double elimination tournament, Roni and her teammates went 2 – 2, bowing out to the eventual champions, Texas A&M, 1 – 0, and the runners-up, California State University, Fullerton, 3 – 0. Although Roni did not get the championship she wanted, she was recognized for her outstanding play in the tournament, garnering first team All-College World Series.
